When is the best time to post social media content?
Figuring out the best time to post on social media is important if you want to ensure you get the maximum amount of engagement from consumers, and be seen by more people. Of course, the best time to post on one site isn’t necessarily the best time to post on another – you’re catering to different audiences, who are likely to have varied usage times. To make figuring this out easier, we’ve compiled the best times to post on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, according to a study by Sprout Social.
When it comes to Facebook, it appears that midweek is the best time to post. 9am-3pm on a Wednesday sees the most traffic, with 11am and 1pm both being the height of this. This is likely due to people having the time on their lunch breaks to scroll through their feed as, while they may post updates on the weekend and in the evening, Sundays and early mornings and evenings show the lowest level of engagement.
Like Facebook, Instagram shows the highest level of engagement midweek, on a Wednesday at 11am, with consistent engagement happening Tuesday-Friday from 10am to 3pm. However, there are also other windows of heightened activity on Instagram, with Friday at 10-11am showing a similar level to Wednesdays. So, while midweek still appears to be the best time to post overall, you also need to take your target audience into consideration when it comes to Instagram – are they more likely to be part of the group scrolling through their feed on weekday evenings?
As Twitter provides a great opportunity for brands to interact with their consumers, it’s probably the most important site on which to ensure you’re utilising the best times to post. For Twitter, weekday mornings, particularly Wednesday and Friday at 9am, seem to be the best times to post – probably as people reach for twitter to check up on the news before starting their day. Despite these being the top two times for posting, Tuesday and Wednesday are the best days to post, though Monday through Friday from 8am–4pm is safe. As well as this, though weekends see the lowest level of engagement, it appears that users still carry out their morning check at around 9am, just to a lesser extent.
