Transitioning from B2B to B2C – Why Companies are Switching Things up in 2021

It’s a new year and, in a lot of ways, it’s a whole new world. 2020 was full of surprises, most of them bad, some of them unexpectedly good, and the face of business as we know it has changed in some very big ways.

We’ve all had to quickly and efficiently adapt to a new digital way of conducting business – none more so than companies that have traditionally been B2B, such as manufacturers, distributors and concessions.

These companies used to rely heavily on high street and big-name shops to stock their goods, never having to deal with the end user themselves. But now the high street is locked down, shops are boarded up and people are instead turning to their browsers to find the goods they need.

Many B2B brands are realising that without the need for a bricks and mortar store, why not deal direct to the consumers themselves?

With customers no longer reachable via in-store stands or other merchants, many brands are looking to take the step and start catering directly to their end users, removing the need for middlemen and allowing them to gain a much wider audience (and profit share) than they previously achieved.

However, it’s not quite as easy as removing the compulsory trade accounts from your website and waiting for the individual purchases to come flooding in. Attracting end users is a totally different game then attracting businesses after all, and in the hyper-competitive world of E-commerce, it’s easy to get lost in the fray.

The most important thing for an online shop to have is a comprehensive digital marketing strategy – without this you’re just shouting into the wind. If you think that’s something you can achieve on your own, first consider this:

How can you attract new customers to your site?

Who even are your customers?

Do you have a target demographic, and if so, what are they searching for online?

Which social media platform should you target, and is it worth investing in paid ads?

What about SEO, what are your rankings looking like, and why are your competitors appearing above you all the time?

They say “content is king”, but is yours hitting the right notes with your audience?

And that’s just the start of it! For brands that have previously only been B2B, these questions can be daunting, and almost impossible to answer without a little help.

One of the smartest moves a brand that is transitioning into B2C can make is to enlist the help of an experienced team of digital marketers, people who have been dealing with E-commerce for years and who have a track record of success when it comes to turning traffic into conversions.
